Description
MT-2 (Melanotan II) 10MG is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analogue of endogenous alpha-melanocytestimulating hormone (α-MSH), a peptide hormone derived from proopiomelanocortin (POMC). It acts as a non-selective agonist at melanocortin receptors, with activity primarily at MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R.
Activation of MC1R on melanocytes leads to increased eumelanin synthesis via upregulation of tyrosinase activity, resulting in enhanced cutaneous pigmentation. This pharmacological effect has been investigated for potential photoprotective applications, particularly in individuals with photosensitivity disorders.
Beyond its melanogenic effects, Melanotan II has central nervous system activity through MC3R and MC4R receptors, which are involved in appetite regulation and sexual function. Reported physiological effects include decreased appetite and increased libido, the latter attributed to hypothalamic pathway modulation.
